Volunteer Opportunities

  • Help a child get a small shrimp out of a dip net during a wetlands class.
  • Untangle a goose from a net. Help band it and set it free.
  • Staff a visitor center and provide important maps and information.
  • Be a friendly voice that answers the phone and provides helpful information.
  • Write a grant to help construct an environmental education center that will eventually benefit thousands of children.
  • Catch a monarch butterfly and gently apply a tag that helps biologists learn about monarch migration routes and wintering grounds.
  • Build a boardwalk where families can go and enjoy watching wildlife, fishing or just being in the outdoors.
  • Stand on a levee looking through binoculars counting shorebirds.

These are just some of the many volunteer opportunities that exist. Some are exciting and glamorous, many simply help organizations continue to serve their communities. Because so many organizations within Houston Wilderness’ boundaries depend heavily on volunteers, please sign up today. You have something to offer, something to learn!
